Importance Of User Experience For A Winning Mobile App Design

mobile app, create mobile app

Every time I download a new application on my smart phone, I expect it to simplify my life and solve my problems.

Most of the times I am disappointed with an app and I am sure people go through the same experience. Many web developers do not pay attention to the user-experience in the mobile app design.

In simple words, if the app has to continuously tell me about how to navigate from one screen to another or what every button means, then it has lost me completely. Now every time I open this app, I have to take some time and remember how to use this app. This definitely does not make my life easier!

So what is user experience? Let me tell you, that I am not referring to UI (user interface) or the graphic design. User experience has got to do nothing with technology and it is certainly not the role of just one person.

How can you create an exceptional and great user experience through the mobile app? Here are some crucial factors to get you started:

Select The Right Features

User experience begins right at the starting phase. Yes this is true! It starts when you are dreaming about your first set of features for the mobile app. In this phase, there are high possibilities that you might get into the stereotype of features : ‘More features will create a great and user-friendly mobile app’.

One of the toughest factors of building a mobile app is planning about what to keep in the first version. Here, it is important to keep it down to minimum and to keep it simple! Build a mobile app that offers the core value preposition as this will help the users to navigate within the mobile app perfectly.

Incorporate features that are relevant to the mobile platform. There are many easy ways of creating a mobile app, but you need to know what works for your customers. For instance, if you are creating a banking app, you should make sure that the app enables people to quickly check their balance and perform transactions on the fly.

Easy Flow & Navigation

Your first step is to plan on the set of features that you would like to have in the mobile app. The next step is to make sure that everything is simplified for the end user. The user should be able to go from one screen to another or from one feature to another easily.

Think about how you can make the mobile app flow so easy that even a 4 year old kid will be able to use the mobile app without any parental guidance.

While creating the mobile app, your motive should be to reduce the learning curve for the visitors and make navigation more intuitive.

Understand The Customers

The most crucial part of delivering an excellent user experience is knowing the users of your mobile app. You must think about what is the profile of your typical customers? For instance, the age group, culture, gender, familiarity with technology etc.

The use of features like button size, easy tap instead of swipe will differ from a 4 year old to a 45 year old.

Utilize The Platform Perfectly

The platforms like iOS or Android offer various types of gesture-based navigation tools. Swipes to the left, right, top or bottom work great for removing or adding a record or for bringing a new screen or removing it. The Pinch option works great in zooming in and out. Through this option, the user can easily zoom in to the content he/she is reading on the mobile device.

On the basis of the nature of your mobile app and its purpose, make the best use of the gestures offered by the platform for enabling an intuitive navigation. A perfect mobile app is one that is greatly based on the gestures and does not use many buttons for navigation.

Build Trust

This is an important aspect! Users who access your mobile app should not have to worry about any kind of privacy issues or spam. Do not prompt the user for entering a lot of personal information. If you can get everything done with the user’s name and email id, then do not ask for any more details.

Similarly, avoid uploading any content from the user’s device into your server without the user’s consent. Many mobile apps have been barred from going live because they automatically uploaded the user’s contact list without the user knowing about it.

Moreover, do not spam the user unnecessarily with frequent emails or notifications unless it is extremely important.

Optimize Push Notifications

Push notifications can really get on user’s nerves. It is true that these notifications can take your business forward, but they have to be optimized appropriately.

Be thoughtful while setting triggers for the notifications so that they don’t become intrusive. Keep in mind, that the user should always have the option to stop the notifications if required.

Create A Feedback Loop

Feedback from your customers is important for you to understand the shortfalls in your app if any. Feedback from the customers will also provide you with an insight on the features they love and you can tweak the app according to their needs.

Think from the user’s point of view! If any user is using your mobile app and is he wants to report something, make it easy for them to get in touch with you. In case you receive any feedback or suggestions, make sure to respond to them within 24 hours.

Conclusion

Basically, all you have to do while creating a perfect mobile app is to keep yourself in the user’s place and think about the points mentioned above. User experience should be the integral part of your mobile app strategy!
